The Saint John’s University men’s soccer team just returned from a trip to the Spain
The Saint John’s University men’s soccer team just returned from a trip to the Spain/Barcelona area and France/Montpellier. After arrival at the Nice airport the group was welcomed by Premier International Tours guide Lisa. Later in the afternoon the group arrived in Montpellier located in the South of France. During their stay in Montpellier the group went on multiple excursions including visiting the historic sites in Nimes, the medieval Gellone Abbey of Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert, and the Pont du Gard Roman aqueduct. After the first 5 days the group transferred to Lloret de Mar, a tourist resort one hour north of Barcelona. From there some of the sites visited included Camp Nou, La Sagrada Familia, and the sacred mountain of Montserrat.
The team did very well on the fields as well. They played three competitive games—winning two while dropping one. Coach Haws was very happy about the tour arrangements. He mentioned “We had a great tour and my team and family enjoyed it very much.
The historic sites like the Roman structures in Nimes, the town of Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert, and La Sagrada Familia made a great impression on our players while the Camp Nou Experience tour still has them talking.
We also enjoyed attending a pro game between RCD Espanyol versus Deportivo de la Coruna. It is always amazing to see how international travel can open the eyes of young people. In the weeks since returning I have had two players approach me about their newfound desire to study abroad for a semester as part of the college experience. I want to thank Premier International Tours for making the tour such a positive life experience for the Johnnie Soccer Family.”
